Media and Communication and Journalism staff have research expertise in journalism ethics, critical analysis of media power, media globalisation, media and politics, media and social change, media and representations, science and risk communication.

Current research includes the impact of internet on off-line media in New Zealand, new communication technologies and social change; representation of marginal groups in mass media; journalism studies, with a particular emphasis on discourse analysis of journalists’ writing practices; news practice; biculturalism, and media and politics.
