Human Interface Technology Laboratory
Summary
The HIT Lab NZ at University of Canterbury is an international, multidisciplinary research centre which designs new ways to support people in their everyday lives with advanced technologies.
Established in 2002, our mission is to support and empower people through the study, invention, development and dissemination of knowledge, technologies and processes that solve real-world problems and have a positive global impact. We are recognized internationally as a leader in Human Interface Technology research and education.
The HIT Lab NZ conducts research on new and emerging technologies such as virtual reality, augmented reality and applied immersive game design. Our research explores how people use these technologies in order to better understand cognition, perception, and human behaviour with the end goal of improving the user experience. We take a human-centred approach by considering the people we are looking to support, the tasks they need help with, and the environment they will be in before designing technical solutions.
HIT Lab NZ engages in projects with partners, both nationally and internationally, from industry, academia and government. It collaborates with many sectors including health, crisis management, environment, sports, construction, and education.
