Mathematics and Statistics
Summary
Our staff are active in research in a number of fields within mathematics and statistics.
In mathematics there is a particular expertise in approximation theory, combinatorics, constructive mathematics, functional analysis, geometry, inverse problems and optimization theory.
In statistics, there is particular expertise in bioinformatics, computational statistics, ecological sampling, financial and medical statistics, probability theory and stochastic processes.
The department also hosts a biomathematics research centre involving statistical and mathematics modelling in a range of biological problems. Members of the department also have research interests in the Centre For Bioengineering, the Allan Wilson Centre for Molecular Ecology and Evolution (AWCMEE), and the New Zealand Government Centre of Research Excellence (CORE).
