Computational Mathematics

Research Group Summary

Computational mathematics involves mathematical research in fields of science and engineering where computing plays a fundamental role. It is focused on the design, analysis, and implementation of algorithms and numerical methods appropriate to, and exploiting the structure of, the problem at hand.

Areas of current research in the group include: stochastic programming; machine learning; fast algorithms for surface fitting and evaluation; numerical optimisation; algorithms for massively parallel computation; inverse problems; numerical linear algebra; rigorous numerics and computer-aided proofs; numerical solutions of dynamical systems (ODEs and PDEs); GPU programming; computational statistics; computational linguistics.
