Language and Literacy Lab
Research Group Summary
The Language and Literacy Lab comprises researchers and students interested in the varied use of literacy and language in society and the development of language and literacy skills, particularly from an educational perspective. Research areas within the lab include language impairments and interventions, work with special groups, educational practice for literacy improvement in children and adults, children's literature and work with libraries, teaching English as a foreign language and literacy development across different languages, work with Maori and Pasifika students and children from bilingual/multilingual backgrounds, professional learning in teacher education, phonological awareness training and the use of video technology to support literacy learning.
The aim of the lab is to facilitate collaboration between UC staff and colleagues outside of the college. The lab supports work on research contracts, supervises postgraduate students and produces joint publications.
