Mast Seeding

Research Group Summary

"Mast seeding" is the synchronous production of variable seed crops across years by a population of perennial plants. There are an unusually large number of New Zealand species that show mast seeding. Mast Seeding group research has focused on why masting species display this variation in seed set between years, why it might be so common in this country, and especially how pollination and seed predation affect masting.
