Companies frequently use project teams to perform various tasks. The actual team performance is thereby of great importance and has direct influence on project success. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are of high economic importance for many countries including New Zealand. For many organizations project-based work represents their daily business. The purpose of this research is to determine the actual project management implementation and team processes in organizations, and identify critical success factors. The focus is on small to medium-sized organizations, because these are typical of NZ, though larger organizations have been included too. Data have been gathered through a survey, which was sent out to organizations in New Zealand, Australia, USA, UK and Germany. The early results show that while team processes are considered important, many companies achieve only a relatively low success rate in their team processes. The implementation of team models in the project context is relatively low.
