Project Abstract

This collection of critical essays will examine how filmmakers have represented the experience and aftermath of a natural disaster like an earthquake.  More importantly, it also treats the earthquake as a theoretical object, an event that radically transforms our understanding of the limits and possibilities of cinema, as well as of life itself.  Filmmakers and film scholars from Chile, Iran, Japan, Turkey and New Zealand will contribute to the book.
