Exploring physiological response of trees to earthquakes

Project Abstract

Previous research has shown that tree growth rings in the years following a major earthquake are significantly affected, though explanations for the changes are generic and rely on guesses about how tree physiology responded.  The Christchurch earthquakes have provided us with an opportunity to explain the physiological changes that result in annual growth differences. Attempts will be made to determine the causal mechanisms for changes in tree growth rates following an earthquake.
