This doctoral research investigates the role and potential of sustainable product‐service system design to confront health and hygiene problems in slums in Jakarta, Indonesia. What can be learnt from existing design
projects solution examples has been done in the past that successfully tackled some of the many health problems of the urban poor? Central to this research is the approach and methodology of Human‐Centered Design to ensure the success of the solution generated. This research seeks to understand how product and service system design
can play a role in improving health and hygiene of the urban poor living slums.
