Project Abstract

This project, which brought together nuclear non-proliferation and Southeast Asia scholars and officials from across the Asia-Pacific (including UC postgrad students), explored the security dynamics generated by the expansion of nuclear energy in Southeast Asia. UC hosted an international workshop on this topic at the Heritage Hotel, Christchurch, in August 2009. It was opened by UC Pro-Chancellor, Dr John Wood, and was co-hosted by the Center for Contemporary Conflict, California. The project was funded by a grant of 100,000 NZD from the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency.
