Researcher Summary

My research is primarily concerned with designing, simulating and building adaptive optics systems to overcome the blurring effect of Earth's atmosphere when observing astronomical objects or satellites from ground-based telescopes. This research currently has two major applications: the design of the Extremely Large Telescope currently under construction by the European Southern Observatory, and imaging satellites and detecting space junk using the telescopes at the University of Canterbury Mount John Observatory.
