Researcher Summary
I have extensively taught in Year 7-8 literacy classrooms within the NZ and USA context. I have also been involved in leading professional development working with teachers, and school districts implementing new literacy initiatives and writing new literacy resources. I have been involved with teacher education foe several years and have just undertaken a PhD within the field of written literacy in years 7-8. I am particulary interested in developing explicit models of teaching writing and how this aligns with teachers' pedagogical content knowledge.
I have been part of the research team for the Ministry of Education review of the Evaluation of the Use of the School Journal and Ready to Read Series to Support Effective Literacy Practice. I have also been part of a collaborative research group uncovering espoused learning beliefs, and the relationship to effective teaching within tertiary education. Presently I am completing resaerch into the teacher enquiry process, and how teachers can use this process as an agent of change.
