Professor Kathleen Quinlivan was an internationally recognised researcher in the field of school- based sexuality education within formal and non-formal educational sites within secondary schools. She was particularly interested in exploring the conditions of possibility for transformational learning related to genders, sexualities and differences with young people. Dr Quinlivan published widely in the field of school- based sexuality education. She was the author of Contemporary Issues in Sexuality Education For Young People: Learning and Teaching with Theory (2018, Palgrave MacMillan), co-editor of The Politics of Pleasure in Sexuality Education: Pleasure Bound (2014, Routledge), and lead editor of the 2009 collection Educational Enactments in a Globalised World: Intercultural Conversations.As a member of the School of Educational Studies & Leadership for many years, Kathleen was a pivotal member of the research and teaching community. She supervised many research students, and contributed to the critical preparation of the teaching workforce in Aotearoa New Zealand. She was an active researcher, who brought joy and energy to all of her work with university and school practitioners. Her published work will continue to make a profound contribution in Aotearoa, and beyond.
