It is with great sadness we reflect on Professor Judith Duncan’s passing in 2015. As a mark or respect for Judith's esteemed contribution to the Education community, we have kept her UC Research Profile active. For more information: http://www.education.canterbury.ac.nz/prof_duncan.shtmlMy research interest and areas of expertise are in early childhood education. I bring to my research a solid background in early childhood teaching (kindergarten, childcare and after-school), lecturing in a range of tertiary settings, advocacy work for children, families and professionals working with children and families, and policy advice nationally and internationally in the area of early years education and development. My frameworks are based in postmodern, childhood studies and socio-cultural theories, and I use a range of qualitative and narrative analysis tools. My most recent research projects have been in the following areas of investigation:a) children’s learning dispositions in the early years; b) homebased education and care; c) kindergarten history and current cultural assumptions in New Zealand; d) ECE centre support for families and building sustainable communities; e) very young children and kindergarten experiences; f) ECE pedagogy.
